Melissa is deeply committed to building a more inclusive and empathetic society through active community engagement. Her contributions span diverse areas—from championing accessibility for the blind and vision impaired, to advancing inclusive arts and public awareness. Collaborating with cross-sector partners, she brings lived experience, advocacy, and system-level insight to initiatives that drive meaningful social impact.
Melissa has been an active contributor to Singapore’s growing accessible arts movement, playing a role in the early development of the Access Arts Hub and serving as Chair of the Disability Advisory Panel in 2021–2022.
Drawing from lived experience, she has worked closely with arts practitioners and institutions to enhance access for the blind and vision impaired -- particularly by providing feedback on audio description quality and advocating for inclusive audience experiences across both performing and visual arts.
In November 2016, the I’M Possible event was launched as a collaborative effort to promote greater inclusion for the visually impaired in Singapore. Co-led by SIP Champions Dr Yeo Sze Ling and Melissa Yeo, in partnership with the Guide Dogs Association of the Blind and the Punggol Citizens’ Consultative Committee, the initiative highlighted the everyday commuting challenges faced by persons with visual impairment. Through experiential activities and dialogue, the event invited the public to better understand these barriers and take steps toward building a more empathetic and inclusive society.
